Touadéra’s true lunar ambitions

We attended the presentation of Touadéra’s 2026–2032 national development plan; it provides for the construction of 2,500 classrooms, the creation of 20 vocational training centres and the recruitment of 6,000 teachers, with the aim of raising the primary school completion rate to 85% and improving literacy. In the health sector, the programme announces the refurbishment of healthcare facilities, the construction of regional hospitals and improved access to care for women and children. On security, it plans to increase military personnel from 26,000 to 50,000 to consolidate stability and national sovereignty. All well and good, but it’s like in accounting: what’s the flip side? Given that he lacks the means to match his ambitions, he’s always whingeing to ‘international partners’ for a few pennies. We’ve witnessed the usual empty rhetoric, but he says – and this is utterly out of touch – what planet is he living on? : “ Even before my statement, there were spontaneous movements of people across the country, in the provinces and various localities, expressing the wish that we continue the work we have begun. This shows that the country is moving in the right direction and that the action taken is deemed satisfactory. ” He is completely out of touch. The bottom line is that, apart from his far-fetched plans, half the country is starving, and that is a fact!
