Touadéra's Ingratitude
The most egregious secrets behind the composition of the Moloua 3 government are beginning to emerge. For example, behind the dismissal of Thierry Kamach, leader of the MOUNI party and a historical figure in the presidential camp, lies a case of clandestine espionage and political humiliation that is keeping Touadéra up at night. And one by one, he is eliminating his earliest allies. Regarding Kamach, it all started with the release of a compromising audio recording in which Kamach dared to criticize Touadéra and reveal the extent to which he treated his early supporters, seemingly forgetting all the money he had spent on him. The recording was allegedly made without Kamach's knowledge by a traitor, who then gave it to Touadéra. Thus, at a major political meeting convened at the Ledger Hotel in Bangui by the executive secretariat of the ruling party, the MCU, the official agenda, dictated by Simplice Sarandji, was to bring the elected officials into line by forcing them to vote by acclamation on a "blocked list" for the presidency and the bureau of the National Assembly. This maneuver was intended to block Évariste Ngamana, known as "the marabout of Carnot," who had his eye on the Speaker's chair. All the MCU deputies and those of the coalition of allied parties, including those from MOUNI, were invited. But, to everyone's surprise, Faustin-Archange Touadéra took the floor to publicly expel only the deputies from Thierry Kamach's party. For many observers, Touadéra had gone a bit too far and seemed to have forgotten some recognition for services rendered. Furthermore, to poach activists from other parties, such as Ziguélé's MLPC, which had once made him a king, he resorted to using checkbooks to buy them off, including Chantal Jean Édouard Koyambonou, Jackson Mazette, Étienne Malekoudou, and Stanislas Zoumbeti. A defector from Maître Nicolas Tiangaye's party, the CRPS, former MP Gourna Zacko was also unceremoniously ousted from the government. Having, according to his detractors, contributed nothing significant to the government during his tenure, he was labeled an opposition "spy" who had infiltrated the administration. But in this game of ingratitude, Touadéra is pushing those rejected to organize behind his back, and not for the better. By repeatedly betraying and manipulating institutions, and sending his former political allies "back to their families for jobs," Touadéra is facing increasingly noticeable internal dissent within the corridors of power in Bangui. It remains to be seen how long this increasingly isolated and disconnected regime, detached from real political realities, can continue to hold on, relying primarily on the security forces and the support of its external allies.
