MCU’s triumph in the elections

In its short history, the Central African Republic has never held fair elections; there has always been fraud, including during the last presidential election, where Touadéra shamelessly rigged the vote, suggesting that for Central African politicians, cheating is second nature. As for the latest parliamentary elections, there were 116 challenges, all dismissed out of hand by the Constitutional Council through Decisions No. 07/CC and No. 08/CC, issued on 24 and 26 April 2026, which ratified the results of the first round of local and parliamentary polls. As a result, the political map of local authorities and the legislative elections is monochrome: it is the MCU, the presidential party, that triumphs. The Movement of United Hearts emerges as dominant to such an extent that it neutralises any notion of competition. It has institutionalised fraud, with the blessing of the Constitutional Council, led by Touadéra’s ever-accommodating uncle, thus bringing things full circle. After all, this country is nothing more than a tropical dictatorship, amidst other tropical dictatorships (Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, etc.)
