The 2028 election—already?

You’d think the ink on the ballots from last January’s presidential election would barely be dry, yet our politicians already have their eyes on what’s next. Remember that presidential race? Touadéra sailed through the first round with the kind of landslide score you’d expect from a bygone era’s dictator (over 76%), aided by his maternal uncle—whom he had appointed President of the Constitutional Court. Faced with this, good old Anicet-Georges Dologuélé didn't mince words: for him, it wasn't an election; it was pure magic. He shouted from the rooftops about "massive and methodical fraud," swearing that the ANE cooked up the numbers in an air-conditioned office while the people were out voting. In short, according to the opposition, Touadéra didn't win—he just cheated better! But the real masterpiece is playing out behind the scenes regarding the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for 2028. Our honorable MPs from the ruling majority have invented the concept of "the student asking to postpone the exam because he hasn't studied." They actually wrote to the Palace demanding a delay for the legislative vote! Their reasons? Some admit without blinking that they haven't yet scraped together the campaign funds, while others... admit they haven't managed to pass their high school diploma—which is now a mandatory requirement to hold office! Meanwhile, the opposition is trying to swallow the bitter pill of this hijacked third term. It’s a classic Bangui scenario: the ruling power dances on helium-inflated vote counts, while the opposition bemoans the cheating from the comfort of their living rooms. What’s the point of chasing 2028 if candidates have to go back to school to pass their exams first, and the ballot boxes have false bottoms? At this rate, the National Assembly won't be passing laws anymore; it will be opening evening classes for novice cheaters!
